In response to this wave of criticism, actor Ashmit Patel, who shares a familial bond with the Khan family as Alvira Khan’s rakhi brother, stepped forward to defend Sohail against the negative backlash.
During an interview on the Hindi Rush podcast, Ashmit Patel directly addressed the relentless trolling targeting Sohail’s appearance. He passionately urged critics to revisit Sohail’s performance in the 2006 film ‘Fight Club: Members Only’, highlighting the remarkable persona and physical presence he exuded in that role. Patel emphasized Sohail’s intrinsic character, describing him as a genuinely kind and soft-spoken individual. He encouraged listeners to watch any of Sohail’s interviews or his recent stint on ‘Alliance’ to witness his gentle demeanor firsthand, asserting that he is an admirable person. Patel dismissed the negativity with a common Hindi adage, “Logon ka kaam hai bolna, voh toh bolenge hi” (It’s people’s nature to talk, and they will), suggesting that such criticism is inevitable. He then sharply rebuked the trolls for their ageist remarks, posing a poignant question: “Don’t you have parents who are aged?” He further stated that aging is a natural process that everyone experiences and condemned the criticism as “stupidity.” Patel opined that social media has become a conduit for individuals to vent their frustrations, encouraging the trolls to understand the true definition of ‘troll’ to realize the nature of their actions.
The film Ashmit referenced, ‘Fight Club: Members Only’, was an action-thriller released in 2006. It boasted an impressive ensemble cast, featuring prominent actors such as Suniel Shetty, Riteish Deshmukh, Dino Morea, Dia Mirza, Rahul Dev, Aashish Chaudhary, and Sohail himself, alongside Zayed Khan, Amrita Arora, Ashmit Patel, Neha Dhupia, and Kulbhushan Kharbanda, among others.
