'Thudakkam' box office collections day 9: Vismaya Mohanlal's debut crosses Rs 18 crore India net; family audiences boost weekend numbers

The debut film of Vismaya Mohanlal, “Thudakkam,” has demonstrated a remarkable surge in its box office performance, particularly during its second weekend run. Industry figures indicate a substantial increase in collections, signifying growing audience interest and engagement with the Malayalam production. On its ninth day, the film garnered an impressive net collection of 1.82 crore rupees in India, according to Sacnilk, marking a significant upswing in its daily earnings.

This recent figure represents a notable 64% increase when compared to the 1.11 crore rupees collected on the eighth day. The film achieved an overall occupancy rate of 40% across 844 shows on Saturday, underscoring its expanding reach and popularity. Cumulatively, “Thudakkam” has amassed 18.98 crore rupees in net collections within India, with its gross collections reaching 22.02 crore rupees.

The second Saturday proved to be a pivotal moment for “Thudakkam,” injecting much-needed momentum after a relatively subdued initial week. The film concluded its first week with an Indian net collection of 16.05 crore rupees. While Day 7 saw collections at 85 lakhs, the following Friday witnessed an improvement to 1.11 crore rupees. The subsequent leap to 1.82 crore rupees on Saturday clearly illustrates a stronger turnout from weekend audiences. The Malayalam 2D version recorded a 52.17% overall occupancy on Day 9, with morning shows at 15.17%, afternoon screenings at 35.92%, evening shows at 47.92%, and night shows performing exceptionally well with a 61.92% occupancy.

Beyond its domestic success, “Thudakkam” has also made a significant impact in international markets. The movie has accumulated 14.05 crore rupees in overseas gross collections thus far. When combined with its Indian gross collection of 22.02 crore rupees, the film’s worldwide total now stands at an impressive 36.07 crore rupees. This global appeal further highlights the film’s ability to transcend geographical boundaries and resonate with a broader audience.

The narrative of “Thudakkam” centers on Meenu, a skilled martial arts trainer whose life takes an unforeseen and dangerous turn after an encounter with a notorious criminal. The movie seamlessly weaves together elements of action and thriller, providing a compelling and suspenseful viewing experience. Vismaya Mohanlal takes on the leading role, marking her significant debut in the cinematic landscape. Critics have generally lauded her performance, with ETimes’ review praising the film’s first half as an “excellent thriller” with effective jump scares and remarkable sound design. While the review noted that the second half leaned more towards “mass appeal” due to a lengthy cameo that, perhaps, diverted the film’s original trajectory, it unequivocally stated that Vismaya carried the film capably without any discernible issues, demonstrating her strong screen presence and acting prowess in her very first outing.
