Emraan Hashmi’s latest film, ‘Awarapan 2’, has made an astounding debut at the Indian box office, amassing a nett collection of Rs 84.31 crore during its opening weekend. This impressive performance has solidified its position as the third-highest opening weekend grosser among Hindi films released in 2026, according to insights from the esteemed film trade analyst Taran Adarsh. The sequel, which premiered globally on August 14th, has demonstrated exceptional traction, particularly within the Tier 2 and Tier 3 urban centers across India. Its success has been a welcome sight for exhibitors, bringing back the coveted "House Full" boards to single-screen cinemas and independent theater chains, signaling a significant resurgence in audience engagement.
Taran Adarsh further detailed the film’s strong trajectory, noting its opening day collection of Rs 23.40 crore on Friday. This was followed by a substantial surge on Saturday, coinciding with Independence Day celebrations, which saw the film rake in Rs 34.09 crore. The momentum continued into Sunday, adding another Rs 26.82 crore to its tally, culminating in the remarkable Rs 84.31 crore total for its initial three-day run. Notably, the opening day’s collection alone surpassed the entire lifetime earnings of its 2007 predecessor, ‘Awarapan’, highlighting the immense anticipation and audience interest in the franchise.
This strong box office showing offers a much-needed boost to the exhibition industry, which has recently experienced moderate returns from other releases like ‘Bhooth Bangla’, ‘Welcome to the Jungle’ (WTTJ), and ‘Dhamaal 4’. The film is now set for an uninterrupted theatrical run until August 26th, when Yash’s highly anticipated ‘Toxic’ is slated for release.
Directed by Nitin Kakkar, ‘Awarapan 2’ is a production of Vishesh Films, spearheaded by Vishesh Bhatt and Mukesh Bhatt. Emraan Hashmi reprises his iconic role as Shivam Pandit, joined by a talented ensemble cast including Disha Patani, Shabana Azmi, Suvinder Vicky, and Salil Acharya. The narrative, set 19 years after the original, delves into the complex journey of a grief-stricken Shivam, who is drawn back into the dangerous criminal underworld as he grapples with themes of redemption, sacrifice, and simmering rage. The film’s soundtrack, released under the Sony Music India label, seamlessly blends reimagined versions of beloved songs from the original ‘Awarapan’ with fresh, new compositions. These include ‘Tera Mera Rishta Continues’, reimagined by Mithoon and penned by Sayeed Quadri; Amaal Mallik’s ‘Yeh Awarapan’, beautifully rendered by Arijit Singh; and ‘Ve Junoon’, composed by Mithoon and sung by Subodhh Sharma. A modern rendition of the 2007 hit, ‘Toh Phir Aao (Dobara)’, also features prominently, further enhancing the film’s appeal to fans of the original and new audiences alike.
