‘Awarapan 2’ Maintains Strong Box Office Run, Eyes Rs 110 Crore India Net and Dominates Independence Day Rivals
Mumbai, India – Emraan Hashmi and Disha Patani’s action-thriller, ‘Awarapan 2’, continues its impressive performance at the box office, having comfortably surpassed the Rs. 100 crore net mark in India despite a dip in its Day 6 earnings. The film, a sequel to the 2007 cult classic ‘Awarapan’, is now setting its sights on higher milestones, with its global collection already exceeding Rs. 150 crore.
On its sixth day, ‘Awarapan 2’ garnered an India net collection of Rs. 6.75 crore, marking a 30.8% decrease from the previous day’s Rs. 9.75 crore. However, this dip comes after a robust first five days, bringing the total India net collections to an impressive Rs. 107.50 crore and India gross to Rs. 128.29 crore by the end of Day 6. Globally, the film’s gross collection currently stands at Rs. 153.59 crore, positioning it to reach the Rs. 155-160 crore range by the close of the day.
The film’s trajectory highlights a significant achievement for Emraan Hashmi, who opened to a career-best Rs. 22.00 crore net on Day 1 across an expansive 9,033 shows. The momentum surged further on Day 2, with a remarkable 53.4% increase, pulling in Rs. 33.75 crore. Day 3 maintained strong numbers at Rs. 26.00 crore. While Day 4 saw a sharper decline of 64.4% to Rs. 9.25 crore, characteristic of a first Monday drop, the film showed resilience with a slight 5.4% recovery on Day 5, earning Rs. 9.75 crore, before settling at Rs. 6.75 crore on Day 6.
Internationally, ‘Awarapan 2’ has consistently contributed to its worldwide gross, adding Rs. 2.50 crore on Day 1, Rs. 5.00 crore on Day 2, Rs. 4.00 crore on Day 3, Rs. 2.50 crore on Day 4, Rs. 2.00 crore on Day 5, and Rs. 1.50 crore on Day 6. This brings its total overseas gross to a substantial Rs. 25.30 crore.
As of Day 7, live tracking data from Sacnilk indicates that ‘Awarapan 2’ is currently running across 3,613 shows and has already collected Rs. 0.49 crore net by afternoon. This pushes its total India gross collections to Rs. 128.87 crore and total India net to Rs. 107.99 crore so far, with final Day 7 figures still awaited.
The film’s successful run is particularly noteworthy when contrasted with its Independence Day rival, ‘Batwara 1947’. While ‘Awarapan 2’ has secured a dominant first week, ‘Batwara 1947’ has struggled to maintain screen presence and has remained largely stagnant around the Rs. 32 crore net mark in India during the same period.
The crucial next phase for ‘Awarapan 2’ will be its second weekend. Its ability to retain shows and attract fresh audiences will be instrumental in determining whether it can achieve its ambitious target of a Rs. 125-130 crore net by the end of its second week.
Directed by Nitin Kakkar, ‘Awarapan 2’ sees Emraan Hashmi reprise his role as Shivam Pandit, with Disha Patani playing Zara. The film also features veteran actress Shabana Azmi as Nafisa Nawaz, alongside special appearances by Shriya Saran and Shaad Randhawa.
