King Alfred School Students Celebrate Exceptional GCSE Success

Students at The King Alfred School (KAS) are celebrating a stellar set of GCSE results this week, with the school reporting performance levels that significantly outpace both national and independent sector averages.

The cohort achieved an impressive 68.4 per cent of grades at 9–7 (equivalent to the traditional A*–A range). This figure stands in stark contrast to the national average of 23.1 per cent and comfortably exceeds the independent school average of 48.4 per cent by roughly 20 percentage points. Furthermore, the school maintained a robust overall pass rate, with 97.3 per cent of all grades recorded at 4 or above.

Reflecting on the achievement, Robert Lobatto, Head of The King Alfred School, praised the students for their hard work and well-rounded development.

"We are delighted with today’s GCSE results," said Mr. Lobatto. "They demonstrate The King Alfred School’s core principles: that young people can achieve outstanding academic outcomes whilst genuinely enjoying their education and developing as a whole person. We are incredibly proud of what our students have achieved alongside the brilliant young people they have become."

For many pupils, these results represent the culmination of years of dedicated study and provide a solid foundation for their next steps. Among those celebrating was Lili, who secured top grades of 9, 8, and 7. She is now set to continue her education at the KAS Sixth Form, where she plans to study Biology, Psychology, and Three-Dimensional Design.

"I was terrified walking in, but seeing my results made me so happy," Lili shared. "I love the feel of community here at KAS. The classes are smaller, so you get a lot more one-to-one support, which I think will help me get the best A level results possible."

Fellow student Juri, who also secured multiple 8s and 9s, expressed ambitions to pursue a degree in English at Oxford or Cambridge. He plans to undertake four A-levels at the school, including Maths, Further Maths, English Literature, and Theatre Studies.

"They don’t just drive you to achieve for the grades, they drive you to achieve for yourself," Juri noted, highlighting the supportive culture fostered by the teaching staff.

The success of the cohort was a proud moment for staff as well. Sam Kirkwood, Head of Year 11, recalled the group’s focus at the start of their GCSE journey. "At the beginning of Year 10, we spoke as a group about the two years ahead and the need to ‘lock in’ – and they did just that," Kirkwood said. "They have worked so hard and can now enjoy the fruits of their labour."

As these King Alfred students look toward their A-level studies, the school remains confident that the balance of academic rigour and personal development will continue to serve them well in their future endeavours.
