Investigation Launched After Man Killed in Violent Double Stabbing in Ramsgate
A 21-year-old suspect is in custody following a horrific early-morning attack in the Kent seaside town that left a 52-year-old man dead.
Police have cordoned off parts of Ramsgate harbour after a brutal double stabbing in the early hours of Sunday morning. Emergency services were called to the scene at approximately 4:50 a.m. following reports of a violent altercation.
Authorities discovered two victims suffering from stab wounds in separate locations: one on Harbour Street and another on Harbour Parade. Both men were rushed to a local hospital for emergency treatment.
Tragically, the 52-year-old victim found on Harbour Street was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. The second victim, a 48-year-old man, has since been treated and released from the hospital. Reports indicate that one of the victims was a taxi driver.
The chaotic nature of the incident was captured in the aftermath, where a vehicle—believed to have been involved in the attack—was found abandoned, having become stuck on a concrete bollard in the town centre while attempting to flee the scene.
A 21-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody as a double stabbing investigation continues.
"The worst I have ever seen"
The local community has been left reeling by the violence. Ramsgate Mayor, Cllr Raushan Ara, expressed deep sorrow and alarm following the attack.
"I am shocked by the horrific incident that took place in our town last night," Cllr Ara said. "It is the worst I have ever seen."
The Mayor confirmed she intends to lobby the local MP, Polly Billington, to raise the issue in Westminster, calling for an urgent increase in police presence in the area.
"Antisocial behaviour and drug-related issues are rising in our community and must be tackled to make Ramsgate a safer place for everyone," she added. "While local businesses are working hard to survive, incidents like this make our town feel unsafe for residents and for visitors who want to enjoy their time here."
Forensic teams were spotted combing the town centre for evidence throughout the day as cordons remained in place. Police are expected to provide further updates as the investigation progresses.
