Oil Tanker Disabled After Being Struck by Projectile Near Strait of Hormuz

MUSCAT – A major maritime security alert was triggered early Tuesday after an oil tanker was struck by an unknown projectile off the coast of Oman. The incident, which occurred in the strategically vital waters of the Strait of Hormuz, has left the vessel damaged and incapacitated, according to international maritime authorities.

The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO), which monitors security incidents across regional waters, issued an urgent notification confirming that the tanker had been hit. According to the report, the impact occurred in the engine room, resulting in significant mechanical failure that left the ship unable to navigate.

“The Master of an oil tanker reports the vessel has been struck by an unknown projectile causing damage to the engine room and disabling the vessel,” the UKMTO stated in an online alert.

Despite the severity of the strike, officials confirmed that all crew members on board are safe and have not reported any casualties. Security analysts are currently working to verify the origin of the projectile and the nature of the attack.
