CTET September 2026: CBSE reopens application window, candidates can apply till September 1

CBSE Reopens CTET 2026 Application Window Following Supreme Court Directive

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has officially reopened the online registration portal for the 22nd edition of the Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET). This window provides a final opportunity for eligible candidates who were unable to register during the initial phase earlier this year.

Application Details and Timeline

The registration portal became active on August 25, 2026, and will remain accessible to applicants until September 1, 2026. This extension comes after the original application window, which ran from May 11 to June 10, 2026, concluded.

CBSE has issued a clear advisory: candidates who have already successfully submitted their applications during the initial period are not required to register again. The current window is strictly for those who missed the previous deadline.

Supreme Court Mandate

The decision to extend the application period follows a directive from the Supreme Court. In its judgment regarding Review Petition (Civil) Diary No. 53434/2025, the apex court emphasized the importance of ensuring that aspiring teachers are provided with “reasonable opportunity” to fulfill the statutory requirements mandated for holding a Teacher Eligibility Test qualification.

What’s Next for Candidates?

While the application window has been reopened, the CBSE has yet to confirm the revised date for the examination. According to the official public notice, the board will announce the specific exam schedule only after the extended application window closes on September 1.

Candidates are encouraged to monitor the official CTET website regularly for further updates and notifications regarding the examination schedule.

Background on CTET

The CTET remains a critical benchmark for teaching eligibility across schools in India. Having successfully conducted 21 editions, the board continues to streamline the process for educators. The results for the 21st edition were previously declared on March 30, 2026.

Quick Reference Guide:

  • Initial Application Window: May 11 – June 10, 2026
  • Reopened Application Window: August 25 – September 1, 2026
  • Revised Examination Date: To be announced
  • 21st Edition Result Date: March 30, 2026

Aspiring teachers are advised to complete their submissions well ahead of the September 1 deadline to avoid any last-minute technical complications.
