Nintendo Unveils Switch 2 Console Bundles Ahead of Imminent Price Hike
As the gaming world prepares for an upcoming shift in hardware costs, Nintendo has officially announced its first wave of Switch 2 console bundles. These packages are designed to offer value to consumers, arriving just as the standard console price prepares to climb across major global markets.
A Final Window Before the Price Increase
Prospective buyers have a dwindling window to purchase the Switch 2 at its current launch price. In just five days, the hardware will see a price hike across the U.S., Canada, the U.K., and mainland Europe. In the United States specifically, the console’s base price will increase by $50, bringing the new standard retail price to $499.99.
New Bundle Options and Savings
To help offset these rising costs, Nintendo has introduced two distinct bundles that offer both software and digital services.
- Mario Kart World Bundle: Launching in late September, this package includes the console, a copy of the high-profile launch title Mario Kart World, and a three-month subscription to Nintendo Switch Online. The bundle is priced at $549.99, which Nintendo estimates provides a total value saving of $37.98.
- Nintendo Switch Sports Resort Bundle: Arriving on October 22 alongside the game’s official release, this bundle features the console, Nintendo Switch Sports Resort, and a 90-day Nintendo Switch Online membership. It will retail for $529.99, offering a reported saving of $27.98.
While these bundles represent a strategic effort by Nintendo to provide value, the company notes that consumers may achieve the highest savings by purchasing the console and Mario Kart World separately before the official price increase takes effect in less than a week.
Looking Ahead: Potential Limited Editions
For collectors and design enthusiasts, there is growing anticipation regarding a rumored The Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary edition. Leaked images of a special-edition Switch 2 console and matching Pro Controller have circulated online throughout the month. While Nintendo has yet to confirm pricing or a release date, industry analysts expect an official announcement soon, potentially coinciding with the release of the Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake slated for the end of the year.
Addressing Global Market Conditions
Nintendo first signaled its intent to raise prices back in May. At the time, the company issued an apology to its fanbase, citing volatile “market conditions” and a challenging “global business outlook” as the primary drivers for the decision.
The move reflects a broader trend across the gaming industry. Over the past year, major manufacturers including PlayStation, Xbox, and Valve have all implemented price adjustments for their hardware, citing increased logistics costs, global tariffs, and the rising expense of essential components.
As the deadline approaches, gamers are left to weigh the benefits of current pre-hike pricing against the convenience and long-term value provided by these newly announced bundles.
