Square Enix Unveils Explosive ‘Final Fantasy VII Revelation’ Trailer, Sets Final Trilogy Chapter for 2027
Square Enix has officially pulled back the curtain on the grand conclusion of its ambitious reimagining of a classic. With the release of a stunning new trailer and a fresh batch of screenshots, the developer has provided an in-depth look at Final Fantasy VII Revelation, the highly anticipated third and final entry in the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy.
Subtitled “The Planet’s Crisis,” this final installment promises to push the narrative to its breaking point as Cloud Strife and his allies race to prevent the destruction of their world.
The Return of the Weapons
The new footage highlights a major threat from the original 1997 game: the Weapons. These colossal, ancient guardians have emerged to purge the planet, indifferent to the plight of humanity. According to Square Enix, these encounters will serve as standout, high-stakes battles throughout the game, with some fights designed as ultra-challenging endgame boss encounters that pay direct homage to their terrifying origins.
Gameplay Innovations and New Systems
Final Fantasy VII Revelation introduces several gameplay advancements aimed at providing unprecedented freedom. The world map is now fully explorable via the iconic airship Highwind. Players can perform high-altitude drops via parachute, allowing for a seamless transition from aerial travel to on-the-ground exploration.
The game also introduces the “FITS” system, which grants characters specialized outfits that function similarly to the series’ classic job system. In the trailer, Cloud and Tifa are seen sporting Warrior and Black Mage attire, which not only change their visual style but bestow unique abilities and stat enhancements.
Combat remains a blend of real-time action and the series’ signature “Tactical Mode,” though the developers note that the hybrid system has been further refined to accommodate new playable characters and expanded ability sets. Additionally, players will be tasked with critical decision-making, with the game’s non-linear structure allowing them to choose which conflicts to prioritize as they work to thwart Sephiroth’s plan to cast the world-ending magic, Meteor.
Preparing for the Finale
Square Enix is encouraging both newcomers and veterans to experience the journey ahead of the final launch. Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth are currently available on PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Both titles feature “Streamlined Progression” settings—including unlimited HP/MP and a full-time ATB gauge—to help players breeze through the story and prepare for the finale.
Furthermore, players with existing save data from the first two games will be rewarded with exclusive bonus items, including the Chocobo & Moogle Summon Materia.
Release Details
The final chapter of this 30-year storytelling journey is set to conclude in Spring 2027. Final Fantasy VII Revelation will launch simultaneously across a broad range of platforms, including PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC via Steam, the Epic Games Store, and the Microsoft Store.
