Box Office Report: Prithviraj’s ‘Khalifa’ Sees Massive Jump as ‘Bethlehem Kudumba Unit’ Eyes ₹100 Crore Milestone
The Malayalam film industry is witnessing a high-octane battle at the box office this Onam season, with two major releases—Prithviraj Sukumaran’s Khalifa and the Nivin Pauly-Mamitha Baiju starrer Bethlehem Kudumba Unit—continuing to draw significant footfall. Both films have shown remarkable mid-week growth, signaling strong audience engagement.
‘Khalifa’ Records Massive 58.8% Surge
Prithviraj Sukumaran’s Khalifa experienced a significant upswing in its theatrical performance on its sixth day. According to data from Sacnilk, the film raked in an estimated ₹1.54 crore in India net collections, representing a sharp 58.8% increase from its previous day’s earnings of ₹97 lakh.
With 1,145 shows running across the country, the film maintained an overall occupancy of 26%. The audience turnout was particularly strong during the night shows, which saw an occupancy rate of 32.92%, suggesting strong word-of-mouth.
The film’s cumulative performance now stands at ₹14.41 crore in India net collections, with an India gross of ₹16.73 crore. Bolstered by a solid international performance, the movie has garnered an additional ₹17 crore from overseas markets, pushing its worldwide gross to a respectable ₹33.73 crore.
‘Bethlehem Kudumba Unit’ Nears Global Century
Meanwhile, the Nivin Pauly and Mamitha Baiju starrer Bethlehem Kudumba Unit continues its dominant run, firmly establishing itself as a festive favorite. On its fifth day, the film posted an impressive India net collection of ₹7.90 crore, marking a 14.5% growth over its Monday figures.
The film, which was screened across 2,597 shows, boasted a stellar 69% overall occupancy rate, with night shows peaking at a remarkable 75.42%. Kerala remains the primary stronghold for the film, contributing approximately ₹7.75 crore of its daily gross, supplemented by steady performances in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.
To date, Bethlehem Kudumba Unit has amassed an India net total of ₹35.65 crore (India gross: ₹41.65 crore). Combined with a robust international haul of ₹52.25 crore, the film’s worldwide gross has reached ₹93.90 crore, positioning it to cross the coveted ₹100 crore mark within the next few days.
