Final Fantasy 7 Revelation Gets New Trailer at Gamescom 2026

Final Fantasy 7 Revelation Trailer Unleashes Iconic Weapons and Submarine Combat at Gamescom

Fans of the legendary RPG saga were treated to an electrifying new look at the highly anticipated Final Fantasy 7 Revelation during the Gamescom Opening Night Live showcase. The latest trailer provided a deep dive into the game’s expanded scope, highlighting massive scale battles, strategic sub-aquatic gameplay, and a darker narrative tone.

The Threat of the Weapons

The trailer establishes an ominous atmosphere from the start, opening with a broadcast from the Shinra News Network. Rufus Shinra attempts to calm the populace regarding the looming threat of the Meteor and the emergence of the “Weapons,” boldly claiming that humanity will “reign supreme” over these natural calamities.

However, the footage tells a different story. The trailer showcases the terrifying power of the Ruby, Emerald, and Ultima Weapons as they wreak havoc on Shinra forces. Vincent Valentine provides a grim voiceover, reminding players that “the Planet sees us as another threat to her well-being, and rightfully so,” while Cid reinforces the danger, describing these entities not as “planetary warriors,” but as “weapons of mass destruction.” Whether these iconic entities will function as standard story bosses or return as the series’ infamous optional super-bosses remains a point of intense speculation among the community.

Expanded Gameplay and Exploration

Beyond the narrative tension, the trailer offered a glimpse into the diverse gameplay mechanics coming to Revelation. Highlights included:

  • Submarine Combat: Players got a look at intense underwater sequences, featuring the crew navigating the depths with the Huge Materia center-stage in the submarine, dodging attacks in a high-stakes combat environment.
  • The Highwind and World Traversal: Building on the excitement from this summer’s reveal, the trailer showed the team parachuting from the Highwind to explore the world map, along with extended footage of Chocobo riding.
  • The FITS System: The trailer showcased the previously announced FITS (Final Fantasy Integrated Tactics System), with Tifa featured in a “Black Mage” class outfit, demonstrating how players can customize playstyles through traditional series job roles.
  • Wutai and Character Depth: Fans were thrilled to see Yuffie exploring what appears to be Wutai, and confirmation that players will be able to control the gunslinging Vincent Valentine—including his transformation into the fearsome Galian Beast.

A Massive Launch Window

While excitement is at an all-time high, Square Enix has yet to pin down an exact release date. The game remains on track for a Spring 2027 release window. When it does arrive, it promises to be a true cross-platform event, launching simultaneously on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and the anticipated Nintendo Switch 2.

Director Naoki Hamaguchi has remained ambitious regarding the project’s conclusion, stating that he intends to weave elements from the broader Final Fantasy VII spin-off library into the game’s ultimate ending. With more reveals expected in the coming months, Final Fantasy 7 Revelation is shaping up to be the definitive chapter in one of gaming’s most beloved sagas.
