Hollywood icon and Academy Award winner Robert Downey Jr. has hit a major personal milestone, commemorating 21 years of life and love with his wife, film producer Susan Downey.
In a heartfelt tribute shared on his Instagram, the Oppenheimer star honored his wife by referring to her as his “lioness” and his “SuperBuddy.” The post featured two images, including a symbolic photograph of an ace and a queen from a deck of cards, underscoring the winning partnership the couple has built over two decades.
“Her to whom all is owed… The great joy of being led on a path of righteous humility is mine,” Downey Jr. wrote in the touching caption. “She—the lioness—Me—the adult cub / recipient of 21 trips around the sun with my SuperBuddy.”
The couple’s enduring romance began in 2003, when the actor proposed to Susan on November 5, the night before her 30th birthday. They subsequently tied the knot in August 2005 during an intimate Jewish ceremony in Amagansett, New York. Together, they share two children: their son, Exton Elias, born in 2012, and their daughter, Avri Roel, born in 2014.
Beyond their personal life, the Downeys are a formidable creative duo, having collaborated on numerous successful film projects through their production company, Team Downey.
