Veteran Bengali Actor Kharaj Mukherjee and Wife Stranded in Flood-Hit Nepal, Son Confirms They Are Safe
KOLKATA – Renowned Bengali cinema stalwart Kharaj Mukherjee and his wife, Pratibha Mukherjee, have found themselves caught in the chaos of the devastating floods currently ravaging parts of Nepal. The couple, who had traveled to the scenic city of Pokhara for a professional film shoot, are currently unable to return home due to the severe weather conditions.
A Safe Haven Amidst the Chaos
As news of the floods began to circulate, fans and colleagues of the veteran actor grew increasingly concerned for his safety. Addressing the mounting speculation, the actor’s son, Tamaghna Mukherjee, took to Instagram to issue a formal update, assuring the public that his parents remain unharmed.
“I have received countless messages and calls from the media and fans asking about their well-being,” Tamaghna shared in a video statement. “I want to explicitly state that both my mother and father are safe and completely out of danger.”
The Journey Home
Providing clarity on their situation, Tamaghna explained that the location of the tragic flooding was at a considerable distance from where his parents were stationed in Pokhara. While the couple was largely shielded from the immediate impact of the disaster, the logistical fallout—including the cancellation of their scheduled return flight and the abrupt halting of their production—left them stranded.
The couple, who were originally slated to return to Kolkata on August 23, have been forced to reroute their travel. “The shoot was disrupted, and their flight was canceled, which extended their stay,” said Tamaghna. “As of now, they are traveling by road from Pokhara to Gorakhpur. From there, they are scheduled to catch a flight back to Kolkata on August 28.”
