IndiGo Ventures Invests in Sarvam AI to Accelerate Aviation Innovation

NEW DELHI – IndiGo, India’s leading airline, has taken a significant step toward digital transformation by announcing that its corporate venture capital arm, IndiGo Ventures, will invest an undisclosed amount in Sarvam, an India-based full-stack sovereign AI company. The investment is part of Sarvam’s broader Series B funding round.

The move formalizes an existing strategic partnership between the two entities, which have been collaborating for some time to integrate advanced artificial intelligence into the airline’s daily operations. The scope of this cooperation spans a wide range of functions, including the refinement of customer service experiences and the optimization of complex, time-sensitive operational workflows.

A Strategic Leap in Aviation Tech

The adoption of artificial intelligence is becoming a pillar of modern aviation strategy. Neetan Chopra, IndiGo’s Chief Digital and Information Officer, emphasized the necessity of these technologies in a high-stakes industry.

“Artificial Intelligence is fast becoming a foundational capability for the aviation industry, reshaping customer experience, workforce productivity and operational decision-making,” Chopra stated. “Our partnership with Sarvam gives IndiGo access to cutting-edge AI capabilities, built in India, and tailored to the needs of the market. By combining these technologies with our operational expertise and scale, we can accelerate innovation while maximizing value for our customers, employees, and other stakeholders.”

Solving Enterprise Challenges with AI

For Sarvam, the collaboration offers a unique opportunity to apply their “sovereign” AI models—technologies specifically developed to handle the linguistic and cultural nuances of the Indian market—to one of the country’s most complex operational environments.

Pratyush Kumar, co-founder of Sarvam, highlighted the synergy between the two companies: “Aviation is a powerful setting for enterprise AI because it combines millions of customer interactions with complex, time-sensitive operations. IndiGo brings the domain depth and scale needed to identify where AI can create real value. Together, we can develop systems that are useful in production and build a stronger template for enterprise AI in India.”

Scaling Future-Ready Infrastructure

In a joint statement, the companies outlined their roadmap for the future. By merging IndiGo’s vast network data and operational expertise with Sarvam’s sophisticated voice and agentic AI systems, the goal is to modernize airline infrastructure. The companies plan to continue developing and rigorously testing applications that enhance productivity for a large, distributed workforce while simultaneously upgrading the passenger experience. Successful deployments are expected to be scaled across IndiGo’s entire flight network.

This investment underscores the broader mandate of IndiGo Ventures. Established three years ago following SEBI approval, the fund operates with a corpus of Rs 600 crore, specifically designed to foster technological innovation within the travel and logistics sectors.

As the industry faces increasing demands for efficiency and real-time responsiveness, this Artificial Intelligence integration signals a shift toward a more data-driven, automated future for Indian aviation.
