Arshad Warsi Weighs In on Bollywood’s Nepotism Debate: ‘It Wasn’t a Topic When I Started’

The long-standing conversation surrounding nepotism in the Hindi film industry remains as polarizing as ever, with debates frequently erupting over the privileges and pressures faced by “star kids.” Joining the discourse, seasoned actor Arshad Warsi recently shared his pragmatic perspective, suggesting that the industry’s obsession with the topic is a relatively modern phenomenon.

In a recent interview with Filmigyan while promoting his upcoming film, Jeevan Bheema Yojana, Arshad Warsi reflected on the landscape of Bollywood when he first launched his career. According to the actor, the term and the surrounding vitriol were non-existent during his early days in the industry.

“I have no problem with nepotism. I love nepotism,” Warsi remarked candidly. He went on to credit actress Kangana Ranaut for bringing the issue into the mainstream spotlight. “Nepotism was not the topic when I came into the industry. That was not there at all. I think Kangana is the one who came out with this idea, and then it got big, and everyone started talking about it.”

For Warsi, the debate does not hold much weight in the face of raw ability. “Does it bother me? No, it doesn’t. My heart tells me that at the end of the day, it is your talent that decides how far you are going to go,” he added.

The Hidden Struggle of Star Kids

While he remains largely indifferent to the debate itself, Warsi expressed empathy for the children of industry veterans, noting that their reality is often misunderstood. He acknowledged that while nepotism might offer an easier entry point—”a door gets opened faster than anybody else”—the subsequent pressure is immense.

“If you are not talented, that door shuts for you,” he explained. The actor pointed out that star kids are often unfairly saddled with the burden of living up to their parents’ legacies, noting, “It’s not fair… each one has their own personality.”

Regarding his own children, Warsi noted that he is not concerned with their success or failure in the public eye, but rather with ensuring they develop their own genuine talents.

Looking Ahead: ‘Jeevan Bheema Yojana’

As the seasoned performer continues to navigate the evolving industry, he is gearing up for his next major screen appearance. Arshad Warsi will be seen in the upcoming project Jeevan Bheema Yojana, directed by Abhishek Dogra. The film, which also stars Vijay Raaz and Sanjeeda Sheikh, is highly anticipated and is currently scheduled to hit theatres on September 4, 2026.
