EA Confirms Leak of Upcoming Iron Man Game, Embracing the Early Look
Electronic Arts (EA) has officially confirmed that leaked footage circulating online is authentic, providing a rare and candid glimpse into the highly anticipated, yet long-quiet, Iron Man game currently in development at Motive Studio.
The unauthorized clip, which surfaced on Friday, quickly spread from gaming forums like ResetEra to Reddit and X (formerly Twitter). The roughly two-and-a-half-minute video, watermarked “AUG26 TEST,” showcases early, work-in-progress gameplay. In the footage, Tony Stark is seen navigating a sprawling urban environment—believed to be Chicago—while engaging in combat both on the ground and in the air. The clip also offers a peek at what appears to be a S.H.I.E.L.D. helicarrier.
While the textures and cutscenes are clearly unfinished, industry observers have noted that the core mechanics, particularly the flight and combat systems, appear surprisingly polished for a title still deep in the production cycle.
A Departure from Tradition
Rather than pursuing aggressive legal action or mass DMCA takedowns—a path infamously taken by Rockstar Games following the Grand Theft Auto VI leaks—EA opted for a transparent, lighthearted approach. The official “Marvel’s Iron Man” account on X, which had remained dormant since its inception in 2023, broke its silence to address the leak directly:
“Well, that didn’t go as planned. But now you know, and we’ve got a lot more to show you. See you when we’re ready.”
Reigniting Interest
EA and Marvel first announced their multi-title collaboration in October 2022, revealing that the Iron Man project would be a third-person, single-player action-adventure game helmed by the team at Motive, the Montreal-based studio responsible for the critically acclaimed Dead Space remake.
Since that initial announcement, updates on the title have been scarce, leading to widespread speculation within the gaming community that the project might have stalled or encountered significant development hurdles. The leak, while unintended, has successfully brought the title back into the spotlight. By choosing to acknowledge the footage with a sense of humor rather than attempting to bury it, EA has effectively reclaimed the narrative, shifting the conversation from rumors of a “troubled” project to genuine excitement for what the studio is building.
As the development continues behind the scenes at Motive, fans will be waiting to see how the early mechanics shown in the test footage evolve into a final, high-fidelity Marvel experience.
