A Supernatural Journey
Directed by Merlapaka Gandhi, Korean Kanakaraju follows the life of Kanakaraju (Varun Tej), a carefree and hot-tempered young man dedicated to running a traditional Bhajana troupe. His life takes a bizarre turn when he falls for Chaitra, a local woman obsessed with Korean pop culture, K-dramas, and the prospect of moving to South Korea.
The narrative shifts gears when a mysterious vessel—carrying the remains of a Korean man—arrives in town, leading to a freak accident. After accidentally consuming the contents of the vessel, Kanakaraju becomes possessed by the man’s spirit. This possession leaves him with newfound, superhuman abilities, including incredible speed, expert martial arts, and proficiency in sword fighting—triggered specifically whenever the topic of Korea is broached.
To regain control of his life and exorcise the spirit, Kanakaraju must embark on a journey to South Korea alongside Chaitra and his photographer friend, Krishnappa. Together, they must uncover the spirit’s unfinished mission and fulfill it to restore balance to Kanakaraju’s life.
Star-Studded Cast and Crew
The film boasts an impressive ensemble cast, featuring Varun Tej Konidela and Ritika Nayak in the lead, supported by comedic and character actors including Satya, Sunil Varma, Daksha Nagarkar, VTV Ganesh, Mahesh Achanta, and Srinivas Avasarala.
The movie’s vibrant atmosphere is further elevated by the musical score composed by S. Thaman, whose work helps balance the film’s tense horror elements with its lighthearted, comedic beats.
Whether you are a fan of Varun Tej’s performances or a lover of inventive genre-bending cinema, Korean Kanakaraju promises to be an entertaining addition to your weekend watchlist starting this September.
