India Post GDS Recruitment 2026: Online Applications for 25,000+ Posts Open Tomorrow

The Department of Posts is set to launch its latest recruitment drive, offering a significant opportunity for individuals seeking government-sector roles. Starting tomorrow, September 2, 2026, the application window for the India Post GDS Recruitment 2026 will officially open, inviting candidates to apply for over 25,000 vacancies across the country.

Under the GDS Online Engagement Schedule-II, the Department is seeking eligible candidates for the positions of Branch Postmaster (BPM), Assistant Branch Postmaster (ABPM), and Dak Sevak.

The online application process is structured into two main phases: One-Time Registration and the final submission of applications.

Eligibility Criteria

To be considered for these roles, candidates must meet specific requirements:

  • Age Limit: Applicants must be between 18 and 40 years of age. Age relaxations are applicable for reserved categories, including 5 years for SC/ST, 3 years for OBC, and up to 15 years for PwBD+SC/ST candidates.
  • Educational Qualification: Candidates must have cleared their Class 10 (Secondary School Examination) from a recognized board, with mandatory passing marks in Mathematics and English.
  • Additional Skills: Proficiency in the local language of the respective postal Circle, basic computer knowledge, and the ability to cycle are essential requirements.

Compensation and Roles

GDS employees are compensated via the Time Related Continuity Allowance (TRCA).

  • BPMs: Receive between Rs 12,000 and Rs 29,380. They are primarily responsible for the management of Branch Post Offices.
  • ABPM/Dak Sevaks: Receive between Rs 10,000 and Rs 24,470. Their duties include mail delivery, stamp sales, and assisting in general postal operations.

Note: GDS employees are not categorized as regular Central Government employees, and their service terms differ from those of permanent staff.

Selection Process

The selection process does not involve a written examination. Instead, the Department of Posts will generate a merit list based on the marks secured in the Class 10 examination, calculated to four decimal places. For candidates with grade points, a conversion factor of 9.5 (multiplying the CGPA) will be applied. Following the merit-based shortlisting, selected candidates will be called for document verification.

How to Apply

  1. Visit the official GDS Online Engagement Portal.
  2. Complete the One-Time Registration using a valid mobile number and email ID.
  3. Log in with your generated credentials to fill in personal and academic details.
  4. Select your preferred Division and posts.
  5. Upload the required documents (photograph and signature).
  6. Pay the Rs 100 application fee (exempted for female, SC/ST, PwBD, and transgender candidates).
  7. Submit the form and retain a printed copy for future reference.

The Department has issued a strict advisory against submitting multiple registrations, noting that such actions may lead to the cancellation of the candidate’s application. Applicants are urged to ensure all information provided matches their official Class 10 marksheets to avoid disqualification.
