Chelsea Secure Lamine Camara as Enzo Fernandez Departs for Manchester City in Record-Equalling Deal

Chelsea have moved swiftly to restructure their midfield on a frantic Deadline Day, reaching an agreement to sign AS Monaco star Lamine Camara for £47 million.

The 20-year-old is set to commit to a six-year deal at Stamford Bridge, pending the successful completion of a medical examination. The agreement follows an initial rejection from the Ligue 1 side earlier in the day, when Monaco turned down an opening bid of £38.5 million (€45 million).

A Midfield Shake-up

The move for Camara—who joined Monaco from Metz in 2024—serves as a direct response to the high-profile exit of Enzo Fernandez. In a major development, Manchester City have finalized a deal to bring the Argentine international to the Etihad Stadium for £125 million.

The transfer fee matches the British record previously set by Liverpool’s acquisition of Alexander Isak. For Chelsea, the sale represents a significant piece of business, yielding an £18 million profit on a player they brought to West London for £107 million just three-and-a-half years ago.

While Camara was the primary target to fill the void, Chelsea’s recruitment team had also shortlisted Roma’s Manu Kone, while exploring various other options within the Premier League market.

A Busy Deadline Day for Stamford Bridge

The departure of Fernandez was only one of several moving parts at Chelsea today as the club looked to thin out its squad:

  • Robert Sanchez: The goalkeeper has joined Serie A side Como on a season-long loan following the recent arrival of Emi Martinez from Aston Villa.
  • Strasbourg Deals: Young midfielder Dario Essugo has headed to Chelsea’s sister club, Strasbourg, on a season-long loan. Additionally, striker Deivid Washington has secured a permanent move to the French side, ending a three-year stint at Chelsea where he made just three competitive appearances.
  • Loan Departures: Forward Dujuan Richards has signed with AFC Wimbledon for the duration of the season, while striker Shim Mheuka is currently in Glasgow to finalize a loan move to Celtic.

Celtic are also understood to be in advanced negotiations to bring Chelsea left-back Landon Emenalo to Parkhead before the window slams shut.

As the dust settles on a massive day of activity, all eyes turn to whether the young Camara can step into the high-pressure environment of the Premier League to replace the massive output left behind by the departing Fernandez.
