Sharmila Tagore to Make Grand Big-Screen Return in Kunal Kemmu’s Spy Comedy ‘Vibe’
Legendary actor Sharmila Tagore is set to make a highly anticipated return to the Hindi big screen after a 16-year hiatus, joining the cast of the upcoming spy comedy, Vibe. The veteran star will feature in a special cameo, marking her first-ever on-screen collaboration with her son-in-law, actor and director Kunal Kemmu.
A Long-Awaited Theatrical Comeback
The news of Sharmila Tagore’s appearance has generated significant buzz, as it signals her return to theatrical Hindi cinema for the first time since the 2010 romantic comedy Break Ke Baad. While the veteran actor has remained active in the industry—most recently appearing in the Bengali drama Puratawn and the direct-to-digital Hindi family drama Gulmohar—her role in Vibe represents a major return to the cinema halls.
This project is particularly special for the family, as it serves as the first time Tagore is being directed by a family member. Following the success of his 2024 directorial debut, Madgaon Express, Kemmu is taking on the role of lead protagonist, writer, and director for this project. The film also marks his debut as a producer under the newly formed banner, Drongo Films, which he launched in partnership with Chirag Nihalani.

The film promises a blend of high-stakes espionage and humor. In the quirky premise introduced via the teaser, two ordinary men find their lives turned upside down after being recruited for a perilous, top-secret mission. Preity Zinta stars as the government official who orchestrates the recruitment, kidnapping the characters played by Kemmu and co-star Sparsh Shrivastava to enlist them for national security.
True to Kemmu’s signature comedic style, the teaser has already offered a taste of the film’s wit, including a humorous meta-reference to Zinta’s iconic 1998 action thriller, Soldier.
