Lipreaders have revealed a touching moment between Prince William and Kate Middleton as they discussed the late Princess Diana during a 2016 visit to India.

On the latest episode of Channel 5’s Lip-Reading the Royals: What Are They Really Saying?, the experts looked back in the archives and unpicked a poignant moment from the royal couple’s week-long tour.

While walking the grounds of the Taj Mahal, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and India’s most iconic building, Kate was thought to have commented on William’s mother.

Pointing to a bench, which is presumed to be the same one Diana sat on in the 90s, she reportedly said: ‘How good did your mum look over there?’

The then-Prince Charles and Princess Diana visited India in February 1992, the same year they separated.

However, her solo trip to the Taj Mahal – immortalised by said photo of her sitting alone in front of the monument of love days before Valentine’s Day – was a defining moment in royal history. Today, it symbolises their strained marriage and imminent separation.

Later on in the episode, the experts zoomed in on Kate and Will’s 2022 tour of the Caribbean, which was labelled a ‘perfect storm,’ due to PR blunders and a ‘tone-deaf’ reflection of changing times in the Caribbean.

Throughout the trip, organised to mark Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee, the couple faced protests regarding slavery reparations and land disputes involving British colonial history.

However, in terms of personal conversations between the royals, things took a more flirtatious turn.

It’s no secret that PDA is often discouraged between the royals; when appearing in public, they’re on official engagement as working representatives of the British Monarchy. Therefore, they are encouraged to avoid showing affection for etiquette, professional protocol, and traditional reasons.

That being said, there’s no ‘unwritten’ rule about what they say to one another, or even dropping innuendos, as long as no one else hears.

Thanks to the professional lipreaders, it was said that, during a formal event, Kate turned to William and said: ‘You look very smart, you do know how it makes me feel.’

The expert then stated that Catherine says: ‘I have some sweets. We can have them when we get home,’ to which William responds with: ‘I would love something sweet.’

Clearly not talking about bonbons, body language expert Adrianne Carter then weighed in, adding: ‘I think we’ve got a private moment that they’re playing out in public, there’s a lot of joy on both their faces.’

She then stated how this cheeky exchange gives us an ‘insight’ into them as a couple.

‘They’re relaxed with each other, they can have this private joke, even in full view of everyone else, without getting carried away.’

Carter concluded, noting that there’s a ‘good relationship between the two of them.’
