Ram Temple Trust Overhauls Leadership in Push for Professional Governance

AYODHYA — The Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust has initiated a sweeping administrative restructuring, appointing its first-ever Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and inducting three new trustees. The move follows a period of intense scrutiny surrounding allegations of financial irregularities regarding temple donations, prompting the organization to transition toward a more professional management model.

During two pivotal meetings held on Wednesday, the trust formally appointed retired Air Marshal Jeetendra Mishra as its CEO for a three-year term. The restructuring also saw the elevation of treasurer Govind Dev Giri to the role of full-time general secretary, while Delhi-based industrialist Mahesh Bhagchandka has been appointed as the new treasurer.

A Shift Toward Professionalism

The leadership changes come in the wake of the resignations of former general secretary Champat Rai and trustee Anil Mishra. The shake-up is widely viewed as a strategic effort to modernize the temple’s operational framework, specifically regarding security, logistics, and the rigorous management of its multi-crore financial assets.

As part of these restructuring efforts, the trust is moving away from a traditional trustee-led system toward a professional corporate-style management structure.

New Leadership Profiles

The newly appointed team brings a diverse range of expertise to the trust:

• Jeetendra Mishra (CEO): A distinguished former fighter combat leader and experimental test pilot, Air Marshal Mishra retired in April as the Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Western Air Command. A native of Deoria, Uttar Pradesh, and a veteran of “Operation Sindoor,” Mishra is expected to bring military precision to the management of daily temple operations and complex logistical challenges.
• Mahesh Bhagchandka (Treasurer): The founder-chairman of the M2K Group and a prominent figure in the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) circles, Bhagchandka succeeds Govind Dev Giri. Known for his close ties to the late VHP leader Ashok Singhal, Bhagchandka has been hailed by VHP leadership as a “frontline soldier” of the Ram Janmabhoomi movement.
• Madan Mohan Pandey (Trustee): A seasoned Ayodhya-based lawyer, Pandey is a veteran of the legal battle for the temple. He famously represented Ram Lalla Virajman throughout the decades-long title dispute that culminated in the 2019 Supreme Court verdict.
• Nirmala Yadav (Trustee): Marking a historic milestone, Yadav becomes the first woman to join the trust. A former college principal and long-time Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) worker, she currently serves as the vice-president of the Rashtriya Shaikshik Mahasangh.

Addressing Financial Scrutiny

The restructuring follows a series of controversies that began in June, when allegations surfaced regarding the diversion of ₹5 crore to ₹7.5 crore in temple offerings. The subsequent investigation by a Special Investigation Team (SIT) led to the arrest of eight individuals and the recovery of approximately ₹80 lakh.

While a second SIT, formed under Supreme Court directive, flagged “gross lapses” in the trust’s internal functioning—specifically citing deficiencies in financial oversight and the role of the State Bank of India—the investigation cleared the top leadership of any direct financial impropriety.

By installing a professional CEO and formalizing financial roles, the trust aims to restore public confidence and ensure the long-term integrity of the management of the Ram Temple.
