iPhone 18 Pro Pricing: Why Apple May Be Forced to Hike Costs Next Week

With less than a week remaining until Apple’s highly anticipated “Surprise and Shine” event, the tech industry is bracing for a potential shake-up in device pricing. A new report from research firm TrendForce suggests that consumers should prepare for a notable increase in the cost of the upcoming iPhone 18 Pro models, driven largely by the soaring costs of memory components.

The Forecasted Price Jump

According to TrendForce, Apple is likely to implement a price hike of approximately 10% to 20% across its premium smartphone lineup. When applied to the existing pricing structure, this suggests a significant jump for the Pro series.

The firm anticipates the starting price for the iPhone 18 Pro will climb to between $1,249 and $1,299, while the iPhone 18 Pro Max is expected to debut between $1,349 and $1,399. These figures represent a potential increase of $150 to $200 over the corresponding iPhone 17 models released last year.

The “Ultra” Factor and Market Outlook

Beyond the standard Pro models, market eyes are fixed on the rumored launch of Apple’s first foldable device—the “iPhone Ultra.” TrendForce estimates that this premium foldable could start at an eye-watering $2,099 to $2,299, with top-tier storage configurations potentially pushing the price tag beyond the $3,000 threshold.

While the standard iPhone 18 is not slated for release until the spring of 2027, analysts predict it will likely mirror the 10-20% price increase seen across the Pro lineup.

Memory Costs: The Catalyst for Change

The primary driver behind these price adjustments is a volatile memory market. TrendForce data indicates that the cost of 256GB memory chips has skyrocketed by nearly 400% year-on-year. Furthermore, the overall Bill of Materials (BOM) for a 256GB Pro model is estimated to be 38% higher than that of last year’s iteration.

Industry experts note that Apple is currently trapped in a supply chain squeeze. The global surge in AI infrastructure development has created fierce competition for memory components, effectively driving up costs for all electronics manufacturers. Despite these pressures, analysts suggest that Apple plans to absorb a portion of these costs by operating on lower margins, choosing not to pass the full extent of the price hikes on to the consumer.

A Departure from Previous Years

This year’s outlook marks a shift in strategy. Last year, Apple successfully navigated inflationary pressures by keeping the iPhone 17 Pro Max price stable, applying only a modest $100 increase to the base Pro model. However, with the current strain on memory supply chains showing no signs of easing, it appears increasingly unlikely that Apple can shield customers from these rising production costs for another cycle.

Official pricing and hardware specifications will be confirmed during the Apple event scheduled for Wednesday, September 9. As the industry watches closely, the “Surprise and Shine” presentation may well redefine the entry point for Apple’s flagship experience.
