Frontier Developments Secures Partnership with Disney to Create New Management Simulation Game

CAMBRIDGE, UK – Frontier Developments, the studio powerhouse behind the Planet series and Jurassic World Evolution, has officially entered into a strategic licensing agreement with Disney to develop a brand-new title based on the entertainment giant’s legendary intellectual property.

Under the terms of the deal, Frontier will handle the full scope of the project, including funding, development, and publishing. The studio intends to leverage its deep expertise in the creative management simulation (CMS) genre to bring this new project to life. While the specific Disney property remains under wraps, the announcement signals a significant milestone for the Cambridge-based developer as it doubles down on its core strengths.

“We are delighted to announce this collaboration with Disney, which further reinforces our clearly defined strategy of developing and nurturing world-class creative management simulation game franchises,” said Frontier CEO Jo Cooke. “Our mission with this game is to connect a passionate creative community of players with one of the world’s most iconic and beloved brands, and I can’t wait to see what our talented teams will create with this amazing opportunity.”

The move follows a period of robust financial performance for the developer. Frontier recently reported its second-highest annual revenue on record, climbing 16% to £104.8 million. Operating profit saw an even steeper incline, jumping 44% to £19 million.

This financial success is largely attributed to the studio’s strategic pivot initiated in 2023, when it narrowed its focus to the CMS genre to achieve more predictable and sustainable returns. According to the company, creative management simulation games now account for 90% of its total revenue. By committing to a development cycle that delivers “one CMS title per year,” Frontier aims to build a portfolio of evergreen franchises that resonate with players long after launch.

In addition to the upcoming Disney project, the studio is currently working on an unannounced Planet title based on its own proprietary IP, further cementing its position as the industry leader in management-sim gaming.

As the developer looks to the future, its partnership with Disney is expected to be a cornerstone of this long-term growth strategy. By merging the studio’s proven gameplay loops with the global reach of Disney’s catalog, Frontier is positioning itself for a new era of expansion.
