One victim remains in critical condition as police confirm the incident is being investigated as a hate crime.
A teenager from Shirehampton has been formally charged in connection with a violent assault in Avonmouth that left a group of visiting ship workers severely injured.
Avon and Somerset Police confirmed that the incident took place on the evening of Friday, July 31, on Richmond Terrace. The victims, who were in the area while their vessel was docked at the port, were subjected to a targeted attack that has since been officially recorded by authorities as a suspected hate crime.
Tragically, one of the individuals injured during the confrontation remains in the hospital, where they are currently receiving treatment for critical injuries.
The investigation into the attack led to the re-arrest of 18-year-old Preston Stabb on Wednesday, September 2. Stabb, a resident of Shirehampton, has been charged with causing grievous bodily harm (GBH) with intent and common assault. He was remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear before Bristol Magistrates Court on Thursday, September 3.
Legal proceedings are also underway for a second suspect. A 45-year-old man, who was charged last month with causing grievous bodily harm with intent, continues to be held on remand. He is due to appear at Bristol Crown Court on Friday, September 4.
The police investigation has seen several developments since the incident occurred. Two other men, aged 19 and 28, who were initially arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, have since been released without charge, and authorities have confirmed no further action will be taken against them. Additionally, a 39-year-old woman, who was previously arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender, remains on conditional bail as the inquiry continues.
Avon and Somerset Police have continued to urge anyone with information regarding the incident to come forward as they work to establish the full circumstances surrounding the attack.
