Welsh back action on the environment, according to new poll

MOST people support action from the next Senedd to make Wales cleaner, greener and fairer, according to a new poll.

The YouGov study, conducted on behalf of Friends of the Earth Cymru (FoE) found 60 per cent — rising to 78 per cent for 16-19 year olds — are very or fairly worried about climate change, with top concerns being extreme weather, food insecurity, as well as poverty and employment.

Support for renewables among the 1,092 respondents was also strong, with favourability of solar, offshore and onshore wind standing at 83, 72, and 65 per cent respectively.

Responders also overwhelmingly backed funding to make homes more energy efficient and community power generation, as well as stronger regulation to tackle pollution in water, soil and the air.

FoE Cymru director Haf Elgar said: “Taking action to tackle the climate and nature crises isn’t just good for the planet — it makes good sense for people and communities as well.

“This Senedd election is a golden opportunity to give people and nature a better life and future — and we urge all parties to adopt these policies.”
