Superstar Rajinikanth has once again shattered glass ceilings, cementing his status as the undisputed titan of Indian cinema. His latest action-packed spectacle, Jailer 2, has officially etched its name in the history books, becoming the highest-grossing Tamil film of all time in the worldwide market.
According to data released by trade tracker Sacnilk, the film surpassed the monumental lifetime global collection of the 2018 sci-fi blockbuster 2.0—which starred Rajinikanth alongside Akshay Kumar and had earned approximately Rs 691 crore. As of Sunday, October 25, Jailer 2 has reached a staggering worldwide gross of Rs 710.35 crore, a feat achieved in just 11 days since its theatrical release on October 15. With this unprecedented run, the film has also secured the title of the highest-grossing Tamil production of 2026.
The domestic market has been a major pillar of this success. On Sunday alone, the film raked in a gross collection of Rs 25.70 crore. As of the latest reports, the total India gross stands at an impressive Rs 466.85 crore, with the India nett collection reaching Rs 398.70 crore.
A significant factor contributing to this historic performance is the film’s widespread appeal across linguistic barriers. On its eleventh day, the Tamil version led the charge, contributing Rs 17.35 crore from over 5,600 shows. However, the multilingual reach of the project proved vital to its momentum: the Telugu version brought in Rs 4.50 crore, the Hindi version added Rs 3.15 crore, and the Kannada version chipped in Rs 0.70 crore. This multi-regional penetration has allowed Jailer 2 to sustain its box office dominance long after the initial opening weekend frenzy.
Industry analysts note that Jailer 2 has been breaking records since its debut. It notably became the fastest Tamil film to cross the Rs 300 crore and Rs 400 crore milestones globally, achieving these targets in just three and four days, respectively.
For Rajinikanth, the success of Jailer 2 is more than just a commercial victory; it is a testament to his enduring charisma and his unmatched ability to draw audiences to theaters across generations and geographies. While the film continues its theatrical run, experts believe it is set to widen the gap between itself and other contenders, establishing a benchmark that may remain unbeaten for years to come. As it stands, Jailer 2 has not only revitalized the box office but has firmly reclaimed the pinnacle of Tamil cinema for the iconic superstar, proving that his reign at the top of the industry remains unchallenged.
