Younger patients can now have blood tests at the Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC) in Telford, providing a more welcoming environment for them and their families.
Nine-year-old Dawson Fluck was the first patient to be seen at the paediatric phlebotomy service, which has opened at the CDC at Stafford Park.
The service is in addition to phlebotomy services for children offered by The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust (SaTH) and local GPs.
The new location marks an exciting step forward in improving the experience for SaTH’s young patients and their families.
The environment offers a more welcoming and child-friendly layout, designed to enhance comfort and ease during visits.
Early feedback has already been extremely positive, with patients and families expressing how impressed they are with both the service and the thoughtfully designed space.
Heidi van Duivenbooden, Phlebotomy Service Manager, said: “It provides a much more welcoming environment away from a hospital for our younger patients to come along and have their blood tests.
“A huge thank you to all staff involved in making this transition smooth and successful. We look forward to continuing to provide high-quality, compassionate care in this new location.”
Anna Martin, Divisional Director of Operations – Clinical & Scientific Services Division, said: “This service at the Community Diagnostic Centre is part of our ambition to provide care closer to home for our patients and away from a hospital setting.”
