KOHIMA — A two-day international seminar on the theme “Between the two worlds: Translation as a cultural dialogue in Hindi and English literature,” jointly organised by the Department of Hindi and Department of English, Nagaland University, Kohima campus, got underway on Thursday at the conference hall of the English Department, NU, Meriema.
Speaking during the inaugural session of the seminar, Bendang Ao, Director of Research and Development Cell (RDC), Nagaland University, Lumami, referring to the theme of the seminar said that translation is not just about language but it is about connection and empathy between two communities.
He opined that today science and technology have made the world smaller in terms of communication, however people still find difficulty to understand one another.
He cited that India is a multi-lingual and cultural society with many scripts, as well as multiple dialects.

He said that translation of language to another truly means that a greater number of people understand each other, thereby bridging gap between communities with different culture.
Short speeches were also delivered by MAJ Khan, head of English department; Munni Chaudhary, head of Hindi department; Nigamananda Das, senior professor, Department of English, NU; Gindu Borang, principal of Jawahar Lal Nehru College, Pasighat, Arunachal Pradesh; Santosh Kumar Singh, professor and dean (School of Sciences); and Chandra Bushan Sharma, vice chancellor of Vinoba Bhave University, Jharkhand.
