GB News issues major breaking news alert as WW3 fears erupt | TV & Radio | Showbiz & TV

GB News‘ Home and Security Editor Mark White brought this morning’s (Wednesday, March 11) show to a halt as he delivered a breaking update on the ongoing Iran war. The update comes after the US War Secretary Pete Hegseth declared that today would be the most intense day of strikes in Iran. White shared: “No one really knows for sure, but as I say, they still provide a significant threat. And indeed today the UAE intercepted nine ballistic missiles and 35 drones.” He added: “One more bit of breaking news before I go, the Minister of Defence have just confirmed a British counter-drone ground unit took out a drone headed for a coalition base in Iran overnight. They are not just in the air – there are these ground units as well.”

White added: “It’s just the navy which is an absolutely woeful place at the moment in terms of their ability to deploy HMS Dragon.”

A Navy spokesperson said HMS Dragon has a crew of around 200 and is one of the fleet’s six Type 45 destroyers, which act as the “first line of defence against aerial threats – aircraft, missiles, drones – and are capable of protecting an area up to five times the size of Cyprus”.

They added: “HMS Dragon can track hundreds of targets simultaneously – and eliminate them with the Sea Viper system, which can launch eight missiles in under 10 seconds and direct up to 16 missiles onto their targets simultaneously, closing in for the kill at up to four times the speed of sound, manoeuvring at G-forces no human can endure.

“The system – and the highly skilled men and women operating it – proved itself time and again in the Red Sea when HMS Diamond repeatedly downed drones and at least one missile launched at passing shipping by Houthi rebels.

“Last year Dragon herself became the first British warship to destroy a missile travelling at supersonic speed during an international exercise off Scotland, obliterating the target despite its attempts to corkscrew and weave to avoid Sea Viper.”
