Despite being third highest-grossing Hindi film globally, ‘Dhurandhar 2’ is yet to break overseas record of this Salman Khan blockbuster- The Week

“Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge” is currently the third highest-grossing Hindi film globally, with an overseas gross of approximately Rs 423 crore, when excluding the China market. In terms of worldwide gross, it is trailing only “Dangal” and “Baahubali 2”.

Though it has already surpassed Shah Rukh Khan’s “Jawan” and “Pathaan” in overseas collection, it is yet to cross the lifetime overseas milestone of Salman Khan’s “Bajrangi Bhaijaan” (Rs 482.54).

“Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge” now needs approximately Rs 59.54 crore more to attain this figure — a difficult target considering the declining collection for the Ranveer Singh movie as it nears its 40-day theatrical run. The film’s daily overseas collections have dropped significantly, earning roughly Rs 0.50 crore on Day 37. Besides, the arrival of fresh releases like “Bhooth Bangla” and other regional titles is reducing its available screen count internationally.

While the earlier record-breakers “Dangal” and “Secret Superstar” relied heavily on China for their massive totals, “Dhurandhar 2” managed to achieve its global milestone through dominance in traditional markets like North America and the UK.

What’s most impressive about “Dhurandhar 2” is that unlike “Bajrangi Bhaijaan”, it has achieved its overseas total without a release in the Gulf countries or China, where films like “Pathaan” and “Jawan”, and other big-ticket Bollywood releases, earn significantly more.

While it may fall short of the “Bajrangi Bhaijaan” overseas record, “Dhurandhar 2” is on the verge of becoming the 2nd highest-grossing Indian film of all time worldwide, as it needs around Rs 46 crore more to surpass the Rs 1,810.60 crore lifetime total of “Baahubali 2: The Conclusion”.

North America (USA and Canada) is the international region that has brought in the most revenue for “Dhurandhar 2”, contributing over Rs 215 crore ($30 million+) to its total overseas gross. Its international success is driven primarily by its historic performance in North America, followed by the UK and Australia.

It became the first Indian film to cross $30 million in North America, surpassing the long-standing record of “Baahubali 2: The Conclusion”.

Out of this, Canada contributed a record-breaking $10.14 million (Rs 85 crore), making it the highest-grossing Indian film ever in that country.

In the United Kingdom, it brought in around Rs 55.50 crore (£4.39 million). It has already surpassed “Pathaan” to become the highest-grossing Indian film in the UK.

It also currently holds the record for the highest-grossing Indian film in Australia, surpassing its own predecessor, “Dhurandhar”, with a Rs 46.22 crore (A$8.255 million) gross.

In New Zealand, it fetched Rs 6.62 crore (NZ$1.295 million). There too, it achieved a milestone by becoming the first Indian film to cross the NZ$1 million mark.
