Health New Zealand Te Whatu Ora is hosting a series of workshops aimed at helping parents and caregivers better understand children’s emotional needs and strengthen family connections during challenging times.
The “Growing Stronger Together” workshops are designed for parents and caregivers of children aged 5 to 12, offering practical tools and resources to improve communication, build resilience, and support emotional wellbeing within families. Participants will also receive a free Growing Stronger Together activity booklet and small workshop keepsakes.
The sessions will run between April 30 and May 9, with workshops offered in Hindi, English, Somali and Mandarin at community venues across Auckland.

The Hindi session will be held on Thursday, April 30, from 10.30am to 1pm at Athol Syms Community Centre in Epsom. An English session will follow on Saturday, May 2, from 10am to 12.30pm at Western Springs Community Hall in Point Chevalier. A Somali-language workshop is scheduled for Friday, May 8, from 10am to 12.30pm at the Rakiriki Room, Wesley Community Centre in Mt Roskill, while the Mandarin session will be held on Saturday, May 9, from 10.30am to 1pm at Athol Syms Community Centre.

The workshops are being supported by Asian and Ethnic Health Services, which works alongside Health New Zealand Waitematā and North Shore to deliver culturally appropriate and accessible healthcare services for Asian migrant and refugee communities. The service includes around 270 bilingual professionals, cultural workers and interpreters, covering more than 142 languages and dialects.
