Keeping in mind Sai Pallavi’s Tamil accent, Aamir Khan decided to make the heroine in his son Junaid’s sophomore release, Ek Din a Tamilian.
Says Aamir, “I was very sure I wanted Sai Pallavi, and no one else for the film. She fitted the part like a glove. She is completely natural. In my opinion, Sai is the best contemporary actress in Indian cinema.”
Getting Sai Pallavi to agree to do the film was not difficult. The problem was her poor Hindi. “We sorted that by making the character a Tamilian,” says Aamir. “Having done that, I was surprised at how quickly Sai conquered the ‘ka’ and ‘ki’ hurdles of Hindi.” He adds, “There have been so many top Tamilian actresses in Hindi who spoke with an accent. It didn’t stop them from conquering the pan-India market.”
Regarding the negative comments on Sai’s Hindi during the event on Sunday to promote Ek Din, Aamir says, “I don’t think the language is a problem. Sai Pallavi is a fast learner. She will grasp Hindi in no time.”
