Varanasi: A national seminar on ‘Devarshi Narad and Indian Communication Tradition: From Past to Present’ was organised on Saturday by the department of Journalism and Mass Communication, BHU.Addressing the seminar, Shri Kashi Vishwanath Temple Trust chief executive officer Vishwabhushan Mishra highlighted the human dimension of Devarshi Narad, describing him as a great scholar and a symbol of truth, knowledge, dialogue and Indian tradition. He said Narad was not merely a messenger but an ideal communicator who dispelled confusion in society and offered guidance.He underlined Narad’s importance in the Indian communication tradition, stating that his words guided society towards morality and public welfare. Referring to the Mahabharata and Ramayana, he described Narad as a pioneering figure in journalism.General Secretary of Kashi Nagari Pracharini Sabha, Vyomesh Shukla, spoke on the history of Hindi journalism, mentioning key publications. Recalling contributions of Raja Shiv Prasad and Bharatendu Harishchandra, he said journalism is an art that requires a balance of expression and sensitivity.Head of the Faculty of Arts, Sushma Ghildiyal, said journalism is not merely writing but a medium to shape societal thought. She urged students to become impartial and responsible journalists and noted that the department is organising programmes on contemporary themes to inspire learners.Head of the department, Gyan Prakash Mishra, described Narad as the primordial journalist, stressing the need to study India’s own history alongside global narratives.The programme was conducted by Bala Lakhendra, and concluded with a vote of thanks extended to all guests and participants.
