NEW DELHI: Aminur Rashid Choudhury of the Indian National Congress won the Karimganj South constituency with 1,37,257 votes, defeating Asom Gana Parishad candidate Ekbal Hussain by a margin of 86,632 votes. Hussain secured 50,625 votes. Trinamool Congress candidate Aziz Ahmed Khan finished third with 40,016 votes, followed by AIUDF’s Shihab Uddin with 2,543 votes.Fifteen candidates contested from Karimganj South in Assam’s 2026 Assembly Election, along with NOTA.Karimganj South is one of the 126 assembly constituencies in Assam, located in Karimganj district. The constituency is part of the state’s broader political landscape.In the 2016 Assam assembly elections, the seat witnessed a closely fought battle. A total of 25 candidates contested from Karimganj South. The constituency was one of the 13 seats won by the Indian National Congress that year. However, the contest was tight, with AIUDF candidate Aziz Ahmed Khan defeating Congress candidate Siddeque Ahmed by a narrow margin of 4,416 votes.According to available data from 2016, Karimganj South had 1,60,632 registered voters, including 84,574 male voters and 76,058 female voters.
