TalkSPORT host and former Scotland international Alan Brazil has provided an update on his health battle, explaining the reason for his absence from the airwaves in recent times
TalkSPORT host Alan Brazil has revealed how he recently underwent a life-saving operation, having provided an update on his health via his social media channels. The presenter has been absent from his usual morning slot on the Breakfast Show due to ongoing health problems.
The 66-year-old former Ipswich Town and Tottenham Hotspur star has been a mainstay on the programme since its launch in 2000. However, his absence from the Cheltenham Festival left fans wondering where he was after presenting day one of the show.
In a statement shared on social media, Brazil said: “Hi Guys, I hope that everyone’s well. Some of you will have noticed that I’ve not been around.

“I recently had a life-saving operation and I’m deeply grateful to the brilliant medical team who have looked after me. It will be some time yet before I’m fully back to myself and for now I am focussed on my recovery in private.
“Thank you to my family and those close to me who’ve been supporting/ putting up with me! I’ll see you all soon [flexed bicep emoji] AL.”
Brazil has been battling several health problems this year and missed two weeks of the show back in February 2026 due to an ear infection.
Upon his return, the Glaswegian said: “The big news this morning is I’m alive and kicking. I’ve never had so many texts and emails asking, ‘Are you all right? Are you dead? Are you dying?’ Give us a break. Honestly. It was my ears. I had a big infection in my right ear, and my left ear was blocked. I was sat here thinking I was going to fall off my chair.
“It’s the worst I have been, terrible. These lights (in the studio) don’t help. I have said to them to turn the lights down but do they listen? It’s stupid.”
Fans were also taken aback by the amount of weight Brazil has lost in recent months, after returning to the airwaves following a short absence.
One viewer wrote: “Jesus what diet has Alan been on? He looks like he’s lost loads of weight. Hope he’s OK.” Another added: “Brazil is losing a lot of weight, he might have to change his name to Alan Paraguay.”
A third wrote: “Alan looks the healthiest I’ve seen him,” while a fourth said: “Only just noticed how much weight Alan Brazil [has lost], wowzer.”
