Producer-distributor Tiruppur Subramanian confirmed that all issues surroundingKaruppuhave been sorted out before 11 AM. The update has brought relief to fans who were waiting for the film’s release after the morning show cancellations.

As uncertainty continued, ETimes contacted industry sources to understand the reason behind the release hurdle. Ruban Mathivanan of GK Cinemas said, “Financial issues, and no idea on the start.” His statement indicated that financial matters were behind the disruption, though there was still no clarity on exactly when the film would begin screening.

Suriya’s much-awaited action drama Karuppu faced an unexpected hurdle on its release day, leaving thousands of fans disappointed across Tamil Nadu. Directed by RJ Balaji, the film was scheduled to open with special 9 AM shows after receiving government approval. However, several theatres abruptly removed or cancelled the early screenings, triggering confusion among moviegoers.

CM Vijay granted permission for special 9 AM shows. The production house stated, “Special thanks to our honorable Chief Minister Thiru. Joseph Vijay for granting the special permission for the 9AM shows of #Karuppu. #Karuppu – FDFS begins at 9AM, from May 14th A @SaiAbhyankkar Musical.”

Uma Rajendra Cinemas posted, “There are some internal issues that are hoping to be resolved by tonight… We will update you as soon as we receive the green light to reopen the bookings!!” Vasu Cinemas wrote, “Sorry Anbaana fans ! Unable to screen #Karuppu this time. Our hearty wishes to our dearest RJ Balaji on his directorial debut, our south Queen Trisha mam and last but not least Nadippin Nayagan SURIYA sir. May the film smash the boxoffice . Looking forward.”

Responding to fan concerns, RJ Balaji wrote, “Dearest fans, I dont have a concrete answer to the current situation. Producers are doing their best to solve the hurdles. This film has always had hurdles, and somehow God has made us sail through all that and here we are after 32 months. This time as well, I have faith, complete faith in him.”

According to box office tracker Jerin Georgekutty, the film crossed ₹1.90 crore in Tamil Nadu opening-day advance bookings within nearly 36 hours of sales opening. All-India real-time advances reached approximately ₹2.34 crore.
