Peddi is doing well in the Telugu states, but the Hindi version is yet to put up impressive numbers. The makers had pinned high hopes on the Hindi market and the pre release business was also done on a sizeable scale. However, the opening trend in the North has been below expectations so far.
As of now, the Hindi version has collected around Rs 5 crore nett. While the number is not disastrous, it is certainly not enough considering the film’s scale and business. This makes the first weekend extremely crucial for the film’s prospects in the Hindi belt.
Interestingly, the latest Hindi release Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai has opened to mixed reviews. Though Bollywood audiences usually enjoy light hearted romantic entertainers, the response so far does not indicate a major box office threat.
On the other hand, Bobby Deol’s Bandar is receiving good critical acclaim from reviewers and movie lovers. However, the film is not showing signs of becoming a major box office force at this stage, which means the weekend still offers a fair opportunity for Peddi to improve its Hindi numbers.
The film also has familiar faces for the Hindi audience such as Janhvi Kapoor, Boman Irani and Ravi Kishan. The makers believed this combination would help the film attract wider attention beyond the Telugu market. Now the focus is on whether that expectation can finally translate into ticket sales.
Adding to the discussion is the buzz surrounding Janhvi Kapoor’s character and the reactions it generated on social media. The controversy has created nationwide attention, but it remains to be seen whether it converts into curiosity among Hindi audieqnces. The next two days will be crucial in deciding Peddi’s Hindi box office journey.
