The Frenchman finished third on the track at the end of a chaotic 78-lap race in the principality, but due to a ten-second penalty for speeding in the pit lane for a second time, Gasly was demoted to seventh place.
The 30-year-old was not the only driver who was served with a time penalty for speeding in the pit lane, with teammate Franco Colapinto and McLaren’s Oscar Piastri also given five-second penalties.
“After the result of today’s Monaco Grand Prix, BWT Alpine Formula One Team can confirm it has requested a Right of Review from the FIA following the penalties applied for pit lane speeding,” read the statement from the French team.
GPblog also understands that Alpine believe that their own data showed no clear breach of the speed limit in the pit lane, resulting in confusion as to why they Gasly and Colapinto received penalties.
Gasly calls penalties ‘unfair’
There were also some very strong words from Gasly after the race, with the Frenchman full of eotion after seeing a podium finish taken away from him.
“I don’t think there is anything that could hurt me more right now,” Gasly stated to GPblog and others in the Monaco paddock.
“Ten years I’ve been f****** working my ass off for this type of moment, and we did everything right today, so standing on that podium in front of all the fans that turn up, this is the type of moment that, for me, can’t be taken away from us by unfair reasons.
“What’s going on right now is not right, and hopefully, they can make the right calls.”
