A historic South West-based manufacturer of luxury beds has reported a year in which the worldwide trading environment “remained challenging”, as turnover grew and pre-tax profits fell.

Established in London in 1901, and now based in Plymouth, Vispring is a global brand for handmade, bespoke, high-quality beds which are made to order.

In the year to 31 December 2025, turnover rose to £53.7m from £52.7m during the prior period. Pre-tax profits dropped to £21.4m from £22.8m.

According to a review within the company’s accounts, the worldwide trading environment remained challenging through 2025, especially in the context of inflationary pressures, trade wars, changing tariff landscapes, and ongoing high central bank base rates, which suppress housing market transactions.

It noted moving home is often a trigger for furniture renewals and upgrades, while additionally, China – a key market for Vispring’s products – continued to suffer reduced demand for luxury goods due to uncertainty.

Regarding future developments, directors noted Vispring plans to grow its share of the international luxury bed market, using its British heritage and handcraftsmanship as a platform, and will support this by recruiting and retaining appropriately qualified and experienced members of staff.

“The company is committed to following its expansion plans at a suitable pace to ensure that its exemplary level of quality and customer service is maintained,” they added. “As the company expands, each bed will continue to be handmade in Devon, thereby further supporting the local economy, and providing opportunities for apprenticeships, ensuring these specialist skills are nurtured and retained within the UK.”
