Truckers found themselves in trouble for ‘taking a break’ on the hard shoulder of the M6. Now officers have urged lorry drivers to take into account when they’re required to stop.
An image shared by officers from Staffordshire Police’s road crime team shows wagons stopped off an entry slip-road. It appears to be the southbound slip at Junction 15 for Stoke-on-Trent South with a patrol car at the scene.
A spokesperson for the force said: “Parking on the hard shoulder is only acceptable in emergency. Unfortunately taking a tachograph break is not classed as an emergency and carries points and a fine. When planning your route please take into account your scheduled breaks and safe, legal places these can be taken.”

Such a break is the mandatory rest time a wagon driver must take. The tachograph will record the vehicle’s speed, distance and the driver’s activity – including driving, resting, and doing other work.
