New toy and book banks launched at West Northamptonshire Household Waste Recycling Centres

Residents in West Northamptonshire now have more opportunities to give unwanted books and toys a second life, thanks to the introduction of new toy and book banks at household waste recycling centres (HWRCs) in the area.

The initiative, led by FCC Environment in partnership with West Northamptonshire Council, expands the ways local people can extend the life of unwanted items with reuse and recycling. The new toy and book banks are in place at Brixworth, Daventry, Ecton Lane, Farthinghoe, Sixfields, and Towcester.

While the new banks provide a convenient option for residents visiting HWRCs, reuse shops at the sites remain open for accepting these items.

The initiative forms part of FCC Environment’s wider efforts to encourage reuse, building on similar projects already in place.

Alexander Walsh, Operations Manager, for FCC Environment said: “We are pleased to introduce toy and book banks across our sites in West Northants giving residents even more ways to reuse and recycle.

“To further build on this, we will soon be introducing additional ways local people can recycle a wider variety of items and look forward to being able to confirm these details soon.”

Cllr Nigel Stansfield, WNC Cabinet Member for Environment, Recycling and Waste, said: “We’re always looking for practical ways to cut waste and help residents make better use of the things they no longer need.

“These new toy and book banks are another simple way for people to pass items on so others can enjoy them, rather than them going to waste.

“They build on schemes we already have in place, such as donating to the onsite reuse shops and free doorstep clothing collections, which make it easy for residents to donate a wide range of items at our recycling centres and from home while supporting local charities.

“Together, these initiatives help us reuse more, save resources and benefit our local charities and communities.”
