Nuneaton’s A&E department had a ‘recording breaking’ month that gained national attention.
Adam Carson, the acting chief executive of George Eliot Hospital NHS Trust (GEH), revealed that, in March, the local emergency department was the most improved across the country in terms of seeing patients within four hours.
“The George Eliot Hospital had a record breaking March for urgent care performance and was one of only a few trusts nationally to have over 90 per cent for the emergency department four-hour standard,” he told a trust board meeting.

He added: “In fact it (the ‘Eliot) was the most improved trust in the month of March nationally” and said that it highlighted the huge work that staff have put into caring for patients.
Strides have also been made into improving its waiting lists, especially among those who have been waiting for treatment for 52 weeks.
Sue Whelan, joint chair of the George Eliot Hospital NHS Trust (GEH) and South Warwickshire University NHS Foundation Trust (SWFT), added: “I must have run out of the ability to count the amount of people who have contacted me from outside of the trust to ask how they (the Eliot) did it.
“It really is an exceptional improvement in patient care and everyone should be congratulated.”
Latest figures for April show that, in the face of high demand, the A&E department saw just under 90 per cent of patients within four hours.
It also saw a fall in the number of ambulance delays in transferring patients.
