Abundant snow this winter brings boom for Northwoods’ snowmobile businesses | Local News

Snowmobile rental companies see boosts in business after heavy snowfall this year

NORTHWOODS, Wis. (WJFW) — Brad Ferwerda, a salesman at the Land O’ Lakes Recreation Company, says this year has been the most snow he’s ever seen in one winter.

“It’s liquid gold coming out of the sky in the snowmobile business,” Ferwerda said. “This is a little too much, too late. I wish we would’ve got this maybe a month ago, but the rental business has kind of slowed down.”

Don Sharon, Manager of 4 Season Powersports Rental in Conover, said businesses like his are heavily reliant on whether the Northwoods get a good snow season.

“We don’t get snow, we have nothing to do,” Sharon said. “We strictly rely on equipment rentals for us. We do have equipment still going out but compared to other places that rely solely on snowmobile rentals this time of year it really impacts them.”

Both snowmobile rental workers said that after the last two winters of getting very little snow, this season with all this snow, has been an absolute blessing.

Ferwerda said: “It’s been excellent. There’s people coming from Arizona, Florida, leaving 70 degrees to come up here and ride.”

Ferwerda added that his store was able to sell almost all their snowmobiles from the last two winters as well. And with the recent snowstorm last weekend Sharon is hoping to keep the season going a little longer.

“Getting that snowstorm that came in here, even though it didn’t pan out to what it was supposed to, it was very beneficial,” Sharon said.

“Snow season is big, this has been a big year for us,” Ferwerda said.
