A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “A murder investigation remains ongoing after a man sadly died following a suspected assault in Byker on Tuesday (June 16).
“Emergency services attended the scene shortly after 7.25pm and the victim – a man in his 20s – was found to have sustained serious injuries consistent with being caused by a bladed article.
“Three people – two men aged 24 and 22, and a boy aged 16 – were arrested on suspicion of murder. They have since been released on police bail, pending further enquiries.
“Three more people – two men aged 40 and 33, and a boy aged 16 – were later arrested in the Walker area on suspicion of conspiracy to murder. They remain in police custody at this time.”
