Spill kits remain in place at Shipley Country Park following reports of an oil leak at Osbourne’s Pond.
Environment Agency has issued an update following an oil leak, which has left Osborne’s Pond at Shipley Country Park contaminated.
In a comment issued for the Derbyshire Times this afternoon (Wednesday, July 1), a spokesperson for the Environment Agency said: “Our Officers are still responding to this incident.
“Our pads and booms remain in place to mitigate the risk to the environment and local wildlife.
“These have been effective in containing the pollution and we will continue to regularly assess the situation and replace these as required.
“We continue to work with the Local Authority to keep the public informed.
“If anyone witnesses a pollution incident, please report it to us via our 24-hour incident hotline on 0800 80 70 60.”
Emergency services were called to reports of an oil leak at Osbourne’s Pond around lunchtime on Sunday, June 28.
It has been reported that the spillage entered the pond through an inlet pipe.
Spill kits including two booms were placed in front of the outlet to help contain the oil and rangers put dams in place across two streams to limit the flow of water.
Up to 40 spill kits from the county council, fire and rescue service and local fishing club were placed in the pond to absorb as much oil as possible.
Further works to absorb the remaining oil are being carried out today and members of the public are asked to avoid touching the water and keep dogs away from the pond.
