In his first major political speech this week, Burnham has promised “the biggest rebalancing of power in our country,” should he become prime minister.
Chiefly, he advocated for regional devolution, local reindustrialization and regeneration but mentioned nothing about green policy.
During his campaigning, he has continued to remain tight-lipped on his views on North Sea oil and gas policy.
But this wasn’t always the case. Four years ago, Burnham was interviewed on a Green Alliance podcast wherein he lauded the now-energy secretary Ed Miliband as a “visionary”, gave his emphatic support for net zero amid the war in Ukraine, rejected fracking outright, and praised onshore wind.
On this week’s podcast, ECO Chamber host James Agyepong-Parsons and ENDS Report’s senior reporter Shosha Adie speak with RSK Wilding’s legal counsel Alexa Culva about where she thinks Burnham stands on environmental policy and the biggest policy challenges he will face should he become the next prime minister.
