Welch’s hits goal to remove artificial dyes from snacks

PARK RIDGE, NJ.  — Welch’s fruit snacks no longer contain Red No. 4, Blue No. 1 or any other synthetic dyes, according to the company, which last July said it was committed to remove the dyes in early 2026.

Mixed fruit and berries ‘n cherries were the final two products to have artificial dyes removed. Annatto, turmeric, and fruit and vegetable juice now are used for color in those two items.

Multiple food and beverage companies have removed artificial dyes — or are in the process of removing them — after the US Food and Drug Administration in April 2025 said it planned to phase out petroleum-based synthetic food dyes from the nation’s food supply.
