Trump, Modi discuss Strait of Hormuz as India faces gas shortage

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said he discussed the Iran war on a call with President Donald Trump, including the conflict’s impact on the Strait of Hormuz, a key route for India’s energy imports.

“Received a call from President Trump and had a useful exchange of views on the situation in West Asia. India supports de-escalation and restoration of peace at the earliest,” Modi said in a social media post on Tuesday.

“Ensuring that the Strait of Hormuz remains open, secure and accessible is essential for the whole world,” he added. “We agreed to stay in touch regarding efforts towards peace and stability.”
